The Ultimate Festival of Japanese Food and Culture
Project
Food culture is made up of much more than just food and the act of cooking. From festivals celebrating and expressing reverence for the harvest, to uniquely seasonal dining experiences, and special engagements of family and friends, Japan’s incredible food culture plays host to an incredibly diverse range of activities that celebrate nature, the seasons, and the peoples’ relationship with their food and community. For Japan Night, each event is designed to offer special experiences centered around the unique qualities of the season and the food and culture that goes along with it, taking the form of an all-original festival experience that carries an essence of tradition while being uniquely localized for specific countries, cities, locations, and seasons.
Report
Kicking off in order to coincide with Expo Milano 2015, Japan Night was initially hosted on the last Sunday of every month over a period of six months in collaboration with Cascina Cuccagna and Un Posto a Milano, with special engagements also taking place as part of the Milano Film Festival, and at the MAXII National Museum of the 21st Century Arts in Rome, among others. Collectively, over 10,000 people have taken part in Japan Night in Italy alone between May and October of 2015. Peace Kitchen has future plans to host the event periodically in new locations across the globe as part of special programs and collaborations designed to share and celebrate local food and culture across the seasons.
