Your First Bite into the World of Japanese Cuisine
Project
From onigiri (rice balls) to simple and crafty chirashi-style sushi, the weekly Food Experience provides those new to the world of Japanese food and cooking an approachable (and delicious!) entry point, while at the same time offering Japanese food enthusiast a chance to easily go hands-on with authentic and easily replicable recipes crafted to instigate further sharing through the experience of Japanese cooking. By integrating cultural experiences and crafts (furoshiki bag-making), and game-like experiences (chopstick challenges), the Food Experience provides a great entry point that the Japanese food-curious of all ages can share together.
Report
Thanks to the accessibility of the program, the Food Experience has brought in a diverse crowd of all ages, many of whom return to share in the experience with friends, family, and visitors. By introducing largely overlooked and underappreciated elements of Japanese culture alongside the process of cooking and dining together, participants in Italy and visitors from across the globe have helped organizers and sponsors to rediscover the beauty and possibilities inherent in the timeless practices and traditions that make Japanese food culture so inspiring to people all around the world.
